Description

hooooooooooooo, sh*t, did it seriously take me two month to complete this?

Man, got to say, the things that bugged me on the sketch didn't bug me as much when it was colored, but now in color, other things bug me.

Ahem* so context...

Remember when I drew this last month:
D20 - Scorpius' Horrors - short comic by Volts48
And I said I was considering doing another one like it?
Well, I got more than I bargained for with constant frustrations towards myself and the lack of a drive to color this in.
That's why it took so long for this to see the light of day.

I said to myself that I would try and really challenge myself for the next one and I decided I would try and draw the characters from :icongamemasterfel:'s Disney-inspired Dungeons and Dragons tabletop game in the style of Disney
(Link to the chapters: gamemasterfel.deviantart.com/g… )
This proved to be more difficult than I expected as I constantly ran into hiccups along the way. From drawing the heads, faces to drawing, and eventually giving up, on drawing lips for the female characters.
Pretty much feels like I gave up halfway through on this, but I was dead set to draw this humorous idea of the characters from the tabletop stories in a karaoke bar singing songs.
Now mind you, NOBODY asked me to draw this and nobody gave me suggestions what they would sing (which I probably should have done all things considered, but I couldn't waste a joke comic based entirely on waiting for a response from seven different people.)

So...about these characters, if you haven't read the stories by now, let me list them off for ya:
:icongamemasterfel:'s character in the top left is Saoirse, the charismatic Irish Rogue and Thief. While I probably could have picked any Irish song for her to sing, I felt the Jane's Addiction song "Been Caught Stealing" was appropriate, as well as an amusing choice to let newcomers get to know what her thing is.
Fel, gotta be honest, I thought drawing her was going to be hard. I was wrong, I was so f*cking wrong. Compared to the others, she was easy. Like, so easy I had to slap myself with how much dread I initially had to try and draw her. Coloring was even easier, but that can be attributed to the reference image that exists, which credit should be given to :icongotetho:, excellent work.

Upper right corner is :iconagimat-warrior713:'s character, Saragnayan (or Sara for short), the Magus with a dark and violent past who now fights on the side of good to put her past sins to rest. I was between two songs for this one, "Learning to Fly" by Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers and "I Believe I Can Fly" by R. Kelly. I eventually went with the latter because I loved this funny idea of Saoirse sitting in the audience and calling out "Whoo!" while she sung the song (they totally have a thing going, even if we don't exactly know all the details to how they met or how this started. Just saying, I'd like to know how this flirtation started.)
Josh...dude...why is your character so f*cking hard to draw? I only had one reference for me to work with and good Lord, the details were frustrating. I went through so many erasers before finally settling on the drawing you see and even then, I didn't like how it looked. Her lips were the big breaker for me. Surprisingly, coloring her in, she looked better than she did on pencil. But still, f*ck me if drawing her wasn't it's own challenge. Thankfully I didn't have to draw her from imagination alone, I have :iconpeaceguy: for that, you really saved my butt on this one, just not my fingers. XP

Second panel down on the left, we have :iconyoungsamurai18:'s character Fènghuáng Zhìzūn (or Zhi for short), the anime-inspired monk who traveled from the East to take her fist to the enemies of the Disney world and try to become a meme- I mean, get revenge for her temple or something like that. Didn't even have any second thoughts or thought too hard which song she was singing, "Kung Fu Fighting" by Carl Douglas, a choice that Young approved of when I brought this to his attention.
As for drawing her, Young had some reservations as he didn't want me to draw her as a "Stereotypical asian," a sentiment I agreed with, so hence why I dropped trying to draw lips after this. Coloring her in though? Oh man, I dunno what I did wrong but what I did with the eyes to try and add some color, it only made her look like a dead puppet. F*ck...this looked slightly better in pencil, but man it looks worse now...So instead of looking at her, check out the reference made by :iconpeaceguy: instead, which doesn't look as dead.

Second panel on the right is :icontohokari-steel:'s character from folklore and European myths, Bradamante d'Este, the female paladin of Charlemagne's Knights from the Orlando poems as well as main character of his book "Bradamante and The Paladdins." Choosing her song was hard seeing as there was a lot of Christian songs to choose from, but none of them really stuck with me before I eventually settled on "One of Us" by Joan Osborne.
I was actually impressed with how this came out on pencil and paper, but once she went through the photoshop, I just held my head in shame. The flat colors, oh man...I am so sorry Bryce, she went from looking like a Saturday morning cartoon princess to a dead wax dummy...so once again, head over to :iconpeaceguy:'s gallery to see the picture he created that served as the reference for this.

Third panel on the left but second from the bottom, is :iconredhavic:'s character who puts them all to shame, Rose the Barbarian. Her backstory is one for the ages, a princess who was married off to Prince Hans (yes, that Hans) where she spent a year in mental and physical abuse before Hans slaughtered her entire family, stabbed her in the back and teleported her away into a forest to bleed out. Instead of succumbing to death, she gave death the middle finger and instead spent the next few years making herself stronger, faster and dangerous while living in these woods.
If my "Horde of the Dragon Queen" barbarian wasn't dead due to acid, he'd probably offer to buy her ale and challenge her to a friendly arm-wrestling contest.
Anyways, the song she has was a toss-up between "Super Freak" by Rick James or "Brickhouse" by The Commodores. The latter won out due to the lyrics ""She's the one, the only one, built like an Amazon."
Compared to the others, drawing her wasn't a big hassle. I actually had fun drawing her, but that's probably because funk music serves as a better driving motivator. While I'm not too pleased with the coloring I did, I'm not terribly disappointed with it either. Credit for her reference goes out to :iconxkiiro-me: for the outstanding drawing.

Third panel on the left and second from the bottom, is :iconwikkier:'s bard character inspired from the Disney film "The Black Cauldron" and the Lloyd Alexander novels that movie was based on. This version of the character is older and wiser than his movie counterpart as he serves as the voice of reason for the party. He's fun, you'd like him. Now, choosing his song, I admit, "I Write the Songs" by Barry Manilow was the first choice that came to mind, but Elton John's "Your Song" was damn close to taking it. I eventually settled with Barry Manilow because, well, it just sounds funnier to imagine someone would actually take the microphone and sing a Barry Manilow song in front of people.
Hands down, while he was the trickiest to draw, he's probably the best of the bunch in my opinion. Like, everything about drawing him worked out in the end. He actually looks Disney-style and the coloring worked out splendidly. Once again, give it for :iconpeaceguy: for his original drawing of the character that served as the reference for drawing him here.

And finally, on the bottom two panels, :iconbrave-king-shishio:'s gunslinger with a dark past and a snarky attitude, Scorpius, the guy who is like if you took John Constantine and threw him in a blender with anime characters, out would pop this guy with a gun in your face as well as a middle finger in his other hand. No song was chosen for him, obviously, because he detests singing and dancing. If anything, choosing any song to be used here would have been out of character for him, so breaking the Karaoke machine was a perfectly appropriate action for him to take.
Though we'd all agree he'd rock the mic if the machine had Eddie Vedder. -shot-
I didn't have a lot of problems drawing him, I had done so before (see comic above) but drawing him in the style of Disney? That was tough, but I found some helpful guides and used that. As a result, he turned out all right, not too pleased with the rest of this body, but by then, I was already becoming exhausted with this. Reference used here comes, once again, from :iconpeaceguy:, seriously dude, you made drawing and coloring this so much easier.

I was originally thinking I would post this on Christmas, but I was so disappointed and frustrated with this piece overall that I just didn't want to do that. If ya'll want to call it an early Christmas present, go ahead, it'll be less disappointing than what ya'll got. I apologize for the time it took to make this, but as you can see, it wasn't really worth the wait. But hey, I was set to at least finish this before the year was out. Mission complete.

Note to self, never draw Disney-style character again.
